Congratulations to Rugmark on the launching its new GoodWeave label! We’ve been with Rugmark for four years this October and are excited to partner with them to promote the GoodWeave brand.
For of those of you who are not familiar with RugMark, it offers a third party certification program to ensure consumers that independent inspectors have visited the loom or factory where their rug was made to ensure no child had a hand in the rugs making and a percentage of the rug sale is used to educate children in weaving communities in India.
Here’s a video Walter took on one of his last trips to India:
We were originally drawn to the GoodWeave certification program out of desire to give back to the communities in India where the majority of our rugs are made. We wanted to take a stand as an industry leader to transform the handmade rug market and support our customers who truly care about child labor practices and social responsibility.
We hope other importers will join us in this fight. And if you’re a consumers shopping for an area rug, please purchase a rug with the GoodWeave label. For more information on GoodWeave, please visit their web site at www.goodweave.org.
