Green, the Stunning New Neutral

Neutrals are well-loved for their flexibility and classic appeal. But creating a livable space that exudes personality? Well, doing a little more soul searching with favorite colors in mind may be in order.

It may seem a stretch to step outside the bounds of comfortable grays, beige and greige, but we promise – it won’t hurt a bit.

Did you know that every color can be a neutral? Yes, it is true – every color has a shade in the color spectrum that when used properly, can become a beautiful neutral backdrop.

We’ll be exploring this idea across several upcoming posts. Let’s look at one of the A-list neutrals and how to use it in your home. Always stylish green.

Green as a neutral? A bold statement, we know. It blends easily with almost every other color so the combinations could be endless. Plus with so many hues and tones available, it is a wonderful way to bring the outdoors in and chase the winter blahs away.

Here’s where our vision of green took us.

Meet Gorgeous Shades of Green

Varied shades of yellow green, blue greens and forest green unite magically. Just look at all of the interest it brings in a piece like Florence.

Add a textured solid as a foundation, like Crackle in grass or peacock or Agra for great texture with subtle sage accents.

Select a favorite fabric pattern or texture to use on upholstery. Here we have Nori, Lucetta, Lequin and Easton.

Finish your room with some pillows and other accessories such as throws or a table lamp to pull your look together. The Draper table lamp in mint green has a timeless appeal.
Explore contrasting colors to make a fresh color combo.

Green is synonymous with grass, trees and other flora. Combine blues and greens for natural, watery color palettes. Bring in some ivory and brown to scale back a bit – but go for it with lots of interesting texture.

Introducing Agra… Inspired by the Taj Mahal

Outstanding design begins with an inspirational spark, and our new Agra rug is no exception! Of this textural masterpiece Christine Chapin, our Chief Color Officer and lead designer remarks, “A trip to the Taj Mahal in Agra, India inspired our Spring 2016 Collection. We were so enamored by the Mughal emperor’s romantic display of love for his wide that he built this magnificent architectural wonder in her honor.”

And while a statement of love twenty-two years in the making, and a true wonder of the modern world, the Taj’s inherent architectural beauty has never been surpassed. Constructed of white marble, and accented with a scrolled floral design of inlaid precious gems including agate and jasper, The Taj seems to glow in the light of the full moon. Part of a vast complex of outbuildings and gardens, the Taj and its environs were designed around the principle that each piece of the monument would stand on its own while constituting the whole. This is the same philosophy that guides arabesque ornamentation, and the design of our thoroughly modern interpretation, Agra.
