How to Work Color and Texture into Fall Decorating

Fall is the entryway to the holiday season – friends, family and entertaining. If you’re looking to dress up your space, adding in some texture and warm color is a great way to do it. Consider the floor, your starting point.

Did you know that most designers use a colorful rug to set the tone for the entire room they are pulling together for a client? We’ve created a few examples from our Fall 2017 Collection to show you how to DIY a look that works for you.

Love the idea of including jacquard woven rugs but not sure where they’d fit in your home? You can use them to add a hint of luxury to your living room, library or den, even the bedroom.

Inspired by our vintage fabric, our jacquard-woven rugs feature a lustrous design crafted of wool with a cut-pile design in a luxurious viscose. A true study in texture and tone, our new Crescendo jacquard-woven rug will dress up any space. Have you ever tried layering two rugs?

It’s actually easy to do. First, you need to select a more refined foundational rug, perhaps with a single, consistent pattern, like our Tweedy (shown below), and pair it with a larger print that has some additional texture, like Crescendo. The result is a plush, rich look that adds drama to your space.

PalazzoRug
Try a single piece. Bold, yet elegant, our Palazzo rug works beautifully on its own to dress up a room. Taking its cue from vintage fabric, Palazzo features a trellis pattern crafted of wool with a cut-pile design in luxurious viscose. Plus, the neutral colors mean you can play more with a variety of colorful accents.

Another great option would be to take our Giardino rug which, on its own, ushers in sophistication. The floral motif may be all the pattern you want to play with in your space, but when you want to take the next step, you can easily add a  foundational rug underneath later.

The rich blue found in Giardino can be considered a base tone, which means there are a variety of colors that you can use to compliment it. Think gray, lighter blues, orange, deep pink, or look to the greens.

If you also like to switch out accessories with the season, you can really pull a look together by adding in some Zoe, Sloan and Cassandra pillows for a study in contrast and texture. Concentric squares of multicolored satin ribbons lend graphic impact on our lovely Zoe pillow. Layer in the sloan accent pillow for additional texture and dimension. Not one, but two hand-embroidery techniques pop atop our Cassandra pillows sumptuous silken fabric to create a beautifully exotic damask motif-and a work of art for your sofa.

Once you feel a comfort level working with color, texture and pattern, you can pull together some really fabulous spaces in your own home.

Creating Your Own Bedding Oasis

At Company C, we love layers of color, texture, and pattern whenever we are designing the dreamiest beds.   Whatever your style, we have the bedding layers you’ll need to design your own oasis, and a place to retreat as winter takes hold.  Here are our top five layering tips, sure to entice you to keep that New Years’ resolution to get more sleep.

  • Select sheets that reflect your personal style. Some prefer cotton percale’s crisp cool feel, while others love cotton sateen for is softer, smoother hand. Either way, we use only 100% GOTS certified organic cotton to create our luxurious bedding so you can sleep more soundly.
  • Add warmth and texture with cotton matelasses. These heavily-stitched “blanket” layers are a nice way to add lightweight warmth. Select a matelasse color to accent your sheets or to anchor any other elements you add to your bedding design.
  • Lay on a duvet cover or a quilt…for both warmth and contrast. Quilts and duvet covers are your bed’s topcoat, and highlight everything underneath.  Duvet covers encase a down, cotton, or poly-filled comforter. Duvet covers can be used without a top sheet—where the duvet cover is washed with the fitted sheet. A quilt is used with a full set of sheets, where the flat sheet protects the quilt from frequent laundering.
  • Pile on the accent pillows and watch them bring everything together! We love European squares in the back to anchor the pillows and shams (and to prop yourself up for pre-slumber reading).  Pillows create visual interest between your sheets and all your top-of-bed elements. Decorative pillows that contrast with your bedding placed near the front of the cases and shams add dimension. Position them as you like, there are no rules…use concepts of symmetry only if they apply to you.  For even more visual interest and warmth, add a complimenting throw.
  • Remember to conceal the box spring to keep your bed from being woefully under-dressed. Our Waterfall linen chambray bed skirt comes in six lighter shades that coordinate with all our bedding and are oh-so-easy to install. It’s a tailored finish that will compliment your style!

How to Decorate with Pillows This Spring!

Decorative pillows add a dash of wow and visually pull together colors in a room, and can be easily changed out as the seasons transition. With increased daylight, we all have spring fever…use some lighter, brighter pillows to transform a sofa, bed or chair.

Placing accent pillows requires following a few simple rules…..your own! Tossed together or perfectly balanced and symmetrical, accent pillows make it easy to bring your personal style to life.

We have collected some of our favorite studies in symmetry, and contrasted them with a selection of perfect pairings that coordinate, but don’t matchy-match. No matter your style, pile on the pillows for texture, seasonal interest, visual impact … and a comfortable place to relax.
