    Fun With Pattern Mixing…

Do you like layered patterns in a room? We do. In fact, we love mixing pattern at Company C.  And, the more the merrier. You’ll often see us combining bold florals with daring damasks and graphic geometrics. Plus, we always include a wonderful texture—whether in the rug, upholstery fabrics or accent pillows. When done well, layering patterns gives a room personality you just can’t get with a more subtle or “play it safe” scheme of solids or very few patterns.

There is something about color and pattern that creatively energizes me (and all of us at company C).  Of course, how many patterns to mix in one room depends on personal preference. I’ve been known to push the limits here, depending on the room. One of my favorite Spring looks is our Crisscross Collection in Mango, which evokes an unequivocal “WOW” from everyone who sees it. While I often opt for cooler tones, I adore the orangey mango rug mixed with bright pinks and greens. It’s juicy and oh so refreshing for the summer months ahead.

If the idea of blending patterns leaves you overwhelmed, heed this one tip: Choose where you want the boldest print and then fill and play from there. That said; check out our pattern play options and have fun!

    We’re having some fun!

By Chris Chapin • Posted in Inspiration • August 26,2011

Needless to say, having fun doing what we love is what life is all about…and that’s what we did with our Color Play collection for Fall 2011.

Our Paper Chain rug and pillow are examples of how we like to mis up color and texture, fun and whimsy — to really let our child-like creativity come out to play. Don’t you remember making paper chains when you were a kid? Weren’t they loads of fun?

Now throw in a few fashionable cut outs like our Weekend Stroll and Downtown and sketchy Bike Lane pillows and you can see where our inspiration for Color Play came….right back to our childhood days.

These whimsical designs are perfect for today’s modern lifestyles–for those who love to mix up their interiors with fun. Go ahead and have some fun with us!

Iris and Witching Hour Farm – Part Three

It’s wonderful to see a room come together! The Designer House at Witching Hour Farm was recently showcased with the completed upstairs room inspired by our Iris Pillow. Guest blogger and designer Tracey Davidson of The Furniture Solution in West Friendship, MD, and artist Sarah El-Jallad did a beautiful job transforming the bright, empty space into a tranquil and relaxing  hideaway. Our Iris pillow and Garland Pillow complete the cozy chaise lounge and our Garland rug in Daffodil accents the wall mural. Take a look at the before and after photos:

Iris and Witching Hour Farm – Part One

We are thrilled to introduce part one of our series, “Iris and Witching Hour Farm.” Guest blogger and designer Tracey Davidson of The Furniture Solution in West Friendship, MD, shares with us the process of putting together this project – including a room inspired by a Company C pillow! Stay tuned as we watch the room transform from a blank slate to the beautiful finished product!

When I previewed Witching Hour Farm I loved the setting and knew I’d wanted to be involved.   The little room on the third floor was cozy and inviting, I remembered the Iris pillow I’d seen on the Company C site and new that it would be a perfect starting point for my design.

     Here is the room description:

This warm, cozy space is a place to escape from the demands of a busy life.  Inspired by the pillow on the inviting chaise lounge, walls are washed in a golden tan and accented with yellow, leaf and iris.  The long wall is enveloped by a hand painted mural of irises. The mural technique plays with scale – the small scale of the room contradicts, and accents the large scale of the painting. Colors are directly touching without harsh line, or linear composition.  The room’s style is crisp and clean.  All family members will want to linger in this personal retreat to read, write or watch the birds in the trees…

    A Pet-Inspired Holiday…

We recently launched a collection of holiday pillows and accent rugs. The majority of the products in the collection are inspired by pets, more specifically by dogs. Not being a dog-owner myself, I went to the design team to learn more about the inspiration behind this new collection. I probably should note that all four members of the design team are dog owners.

Here are the comments that I received when asking why they’re so inspired by their dogs. We’d love to hear your feedback as well! Are you inspired by your pet? Tell us about it! Read the rest of this entry »
